Same problem with ubuntu intrepid ibex (8.10) F-spot complains that /photos directory does not exist (in the italian release of the distro it's Immagini) and i can't change the default import directory of F-Spot in MODIFY->PREFERENCES->IMPORT->DIRECTORY
