The main reason to update Java on Hardy is that bug 6429775 (http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6429775) is really fixed in it. In all other (earler) versions it is impossible to use Java with Compiz enabled. Please, update it as quickly as you can, most of users really need this update.
