I tried your suggestion for Hardy and it didn't work. See bug #238191 for details on the hardy bug. OpenSUSE sees my tv tuner as graphics card. and prevents me from enabling nvidia driver. Hardy screen goes blank at trying start X with nvidia driver enabled and I have onboard Ethernet enabled. And Intrepid fails to initialize nvidia device. I just have a gut feeling all three problems stem from same bug. And don't blame it on nvidia cuz it works on hardy with onboard ethernet is disabled.
