yes the described disk does indeed exist. The laptop I am using is a HP nc 
8430. I have not installed 2.6.27-7.14, yet, but as you say, I also don't think 
this will make a difference. Today I noticed that if I don't skip the boot menu 
at startup immediately when it comes up then I don't get this error if I 
however press 'enter' even before the boot menu comes up then I get this error. 
So it might have to do something with the rootdelay, which I have not tested, 
yet. I have no idea what number to put, but it seems that 10s is probably 
sufficient, because that is the time that the boot menu takes to automatically 
disappear, but I am speculating.
