I'm not sure exactly if anything changed recently (the upstream bugs are still open), but this doesn't seem to happen on Intrepid.
(I don't see the option to lock the screen when the lid is closed anymore, so I see the dialog a lot less often, but I don't actually remember waiting for it in a long while.) Perhaps it could be closed.
