"The trick works inserting "ifconfig wlan0 down" (or the active network
interface in use) at the begining of the stop) section of /etc/init.d
/alsa-utils."

J's trick worked for me, Laptop now shuts down normal. I've added two
lines "ifconfig wlan0 down" and "ifconfig eth0 down".

My alsa-utils is detached, please have a try with it.
