I installed the exact same way, on my sda12 partition, and specifying grub to be installed on /dev/sda12 (same as /), so that my historical grub installed on the MBR would be untouched. GRUB as been successfully installed on my /dev/sda12 partition, in the /boot/grub folder. so I could boot onto intrepid ibex without any problems.
