OK, I've done a little more investigation to see how the crash is triggered.
1) Create a new menu. 2) Drag a shortcut from the desktop into the new menu. Crash! But... 1) Create a new folder. 2) Drag a shortcut from the desktop to a previously existing menu. 3) Drag the shortcut from the existing menu to the new menu.
