Could you try installing and enabling uswsusp? The following code should
do it. Then try hibernating and suspending.

sudo apt-get install uswsusp
echo S2DISK_BIN=\"/sbin/s2disk\" | sudo tee /etc/pm/config.d/uswsusp
echo HIBERNATE_METHOD=\"userspace\" | sudo tee -a /etc/pm/config.d/uswsusp
