I am experiencing the same problem on my laptop ( Asus A8JS ). I have selected 'PCM' as the Master channel for KMix and the laptop volume keys work for increasing decreasing volume. However it appears that the laptop mute key is muting the 'Headphone' (first in the list) output instead of 'PCM'.
