I also recently encountered this bug after an Intrepid update. Using
Intrepid over the last few weeks ago did not exhibit this at all. After
an update yesterday (of around 250 packages), it's happened twice in ~2
hours.

I have no reason to believe it is a hardware failure. I'm on a Thinkpad
T41 with ATI M22 [Mobility Radeon X300] standard install (no fglrx).
Anything else I can provide? This may be a showstopper for me using
Intrepid, so I'd like to help any way I can.
