The problem is not one particular package--the program freezes when I type the letter "o" in the search criteria. If I begin to type "compiz"-- as soon as I type "co" Synaptic freezes; if I want to type "fonts" as soon as I type "fo" it freezes. Every time I have to do a forced quit.
Maybe I just have to reinstall Synaptic Package Manager because it has become useless for any program that has an "o" in the name.
