Hello, It's the same here. xubuntu 8.04, updated from xubuntu 7.10. I use vnc4server (last version: 4.1.1+xorg1.0.2-0ubuntu7).
I can add that the progress bar is updated and reach the end if I continue to change focus between the update-manager window (or the synaptic window it 'doeasn't matter) and another windows (or the desktop).
