I just installed the latest Hardy kernel update, from 2.6.24-19-generic to 2.6.24-21-generic, and a similar problem appeared. USB drives no longer mount or produce messages in /var/log/syslog when plugged into my monitor's hub after booting. They will mount if I plug them directly into my computer's USB ports after booting, or if they are already plugged into my monitor's USB hub before the system boots.
Reverting to my previous kernel version restores functionality. I get the same broken behavior with both a simple flash drive and my iPod nano. I'm running xfce with volume management enabled. Here are the packages I installed just before this bug appeared: linux-image-2.6.24-21-generic (2.6.24-21.42) linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21-generic (2.6.24-21.32) jockey-common (0.3.3-0ubuntu8.1) jockey-gtk (0.3.3-0ubuntu8.1) libartsc0 (1.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy1) libarts1c2a (1.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy1) kdelibs-data (4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy1) kdelibs4c2a (4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy1) linux-image-generic (2.6.24.21.23) linux-restricted-modules-common (2.6.24.14-21.51) linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-21-generic (2.6.24.14-21.51) linux-restricted-modules-generic (2.6.24.21.23) linux-generic (2.6.24.21.23) linux-headers-2.6.24-21 (2.6.24-21.42) linux-headers-2.6.24-21-generic (2.6.24-21.42) linux-headers-generic (2.6.24.21.23) linux-libc-dev (2.6.24-21.42) nvidia-glx-new (169.12+2.6.24.14-21.51) virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.24-21-generic (24.0.6) virtualbox-ose-modules-generic (24.0.6) I'll attach dmesg output from three cases: - Inserting a drive after boot with the old kernel (working) - Inserting a drive before boot with the new kernel (working) - Inserting a drive after boot with the new kernel (broken) ** Attachment added: "Inserting a drive after boot with the old kernel" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18674603/dmesg.2.6.24-19-generic.drive-inserted-postboot -- Removable drives do not automount https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267622 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
