Just now I did discover another detail, maybe interesting to analyze the problem:
I have a shared boot partition for several linux distributions. And because I do have a test install of Ubuntu 8.04 too, the appropriate kernel is / was at /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic . May be some install script did stupidely check existence of that file and then applyed a Ubuntu 8.04 kernel patch to my Ubuntu 7.10 working system? -- [gutsy] Last security Update does render system unusable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/261395 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
