Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
I just installed 8.10 Beta. It was no upgrade it was a new installation. First everything seemed to be fine, but sometimes the backlight of my notebook (Samsung X20 with intel graphics - chipset) gets darker and darker and after a while it returns to more brightness. I still can adjust the brightness using Fn+up and Fn+down, but the whole intervall I can adjust is darkening and getting more bright. When the cycle is at its darkest point I can reduce the brightness with Fn+down to a nearly complete black. At that point the max. Fn+up setting seems to be darker than the max Fn+down at the brightest point in the cycle. But - to make it more complicated - it isn't always a real cycle. Sometimes it only gets darker, perhaps after a time a little bit brighter and then darker again. Sometimes there are no regular schemes detectable. I tried to look in /sys/class/backlight, but that folder contains nothing. I also took a look at /proc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] pwd /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DD03 [EMAIL PROTECTED] cat info device_id: 0x0410 type: LCD known by bios: yes [EMAIL PROTECTED] cat brightness <not supported> At other models there was always a /proc/acpi/video/LCD folder where brightness could be set using the echo command. I'm not sure if everythings ok here, because I never looked at the /proc/acpi/video folder as the brightness adjustments always worked with the Fn-Keys. Finally: My main-suspect in that case is the gnome-power-manager, as the cycles stop, when I kill the gnome-power-manager process. Mostly the cycles reappear when I restart the gnome-power-manager through typing "gnome-power-manager" in a terminal. At the moment I'm lucky, g-p-m is running and the brightness remains constant. Conclusion: Something is wrong. Terrible wrong. When you can't see what you are doing all other bugs are unimportant. :-) ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: brightness g-p-m gnome-power-manager intel-graphics -- backlight brightness oscillates https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
