I have a VAIO SZ330P laptop running 2.6.27 (as part of Kubuntu 8.10 beta) and have the same problem with the memory stick as getaceres.
Sebastian Wehrmann (http://www.sw83.de) has a patch of the tifm_* drivers that makes the memory stick work with 2.6.19, but it won't patch with 2.6.27.
