I have been on a wireless connection over the weekend and their is no
pause when it shuts down

It only pauses when i have a network cable attached
The issue is with the wired networking.

These errors show on screen during shutdown (Same as in the edit to my
original post:

* Shutting down ALSA [OK]
* Stopping Bluetooth [OK]
* Stopping Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Daemon avahi-daemon [OK]
* Asking all remaining processes to terminate... [OK]
