I seem to have the same problem... 2.6.27-7 appears to have broken usb (at least on my box). I'm running ubuntu 8.10 on a 64 bit machine. I've attached the logs that are generated under the rescue environment from the install cd. If there are other ways of exporting logs that would be pertinent to this situation, please let me know.
