Two days ago I tested a few thing (ndiswrapper, wicd, iwl3945 options, hardy-backports etc.) many hours late at night and I even found a solution which works sometimes (before that it NEVER works): There must be a bug with network-manager - try wicd instead and your wireless will work better.
