Public bug reported:

Even after having locally fixed

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/knet/+bug/71080

the knet fails to connect via PPPoE. The following PPPD message can be
found in the output:

The remote system (hostname) is required to authenticate itself
but I couldn't find any suitable secret (password) for it to use to do so.
(None of the available passwords would let it use an IP address.)

The edgy pppd requires probably the * in the address field in pppd's
chap-secrets file (was not the case in dapper).

** Affects: knet (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
