I'm getting this now with 2.6.27-6-generic amd64, ever since ALSA broke a couple of days ago after a partial upgrade (which I filed under bug #280534). The laptop beeps like crazy when it should be displaying the Ubuntu screen with progress indicator. It does eventually boot, it just beeps annoyingly for a long time. On one reboot, I pressed ctrl-alt-f7 and that stopped the beeping.
