** Description changed: + Update: October 10, 2008 + Technicians from my ISP finally ientified the problem's source as hardware problem - the modem is not functioning. + + Thank you. + + I downloaded the update packages for Ubuntu 8.10. Afterwards, I was told to restart my computer. I clicked the button to restart. However, I know my computer does not restart with Ubuntu (It would in Windows before) so, after waiting, I hit the power button to shut down the PC. My computer is ECS, sorry I forgot the model, but it was their first desktop. Anyway, my PC booted, with Ubuntu 8.10 Then I launched the browser. However, the icon for network connection indicated that there is no network connection. Also Mozilla gave the message that Firefox is cannot find the URL, etc. I contacted my ISP - they said there were no problems with the line. Also my modem is working. I tried connecting to the Internet twice, for different days, to no avail. I don't know if I can attribute this inability to connect to the Internet to Ubuntu 8.10. Also, the USB ports won't work with my USB stick (Transcend) but works with my HP laser printer's USB drive. Another thing, the Change user option did not work. I wanted to attach the captured image but I couldn't get the copy to the USB stick. Thank you very much.
