Public bug reported: I am running on a Dell 1420 laptop with an nvidia 8400 video card, using the latest updates to the 64bit version of Intrepid Ibex. When I'm in X (KDE or even just KDM) the cooling fan spins all the time. The air coming from it isn't hot or anything it just blows all the time. If I switch to a console (not log out, just press CTR+ALT+F1) the fan stops spinning. When I switch back to X then the fan starts spinning again. If I run X with the open source "nv" driver then the fan works as expected (it's off unless the CPU is under load). Also, the previous driver didn't do this, and that was version 177.60 (I believe).
The nvidia driver version is 177.80.
