Nop, I don't have a Sony Vaio. I attached my lspci output. I'm pretty sure it's a kernel problem because I recompiled a Ubuntu Kernel (2.6.27) on Hardy and it had the same effect. Now I'm using Intrepid Ibex Beta and when the system boots up, at some point the display gets dimmed. It can be fixed using the laptop keys (Fn+F6) but I think there's a bug somewhere.
