nvidia_new driver

This is entirely expected and just a warning. This doesn't work for the
nvidia driver.

This is more interesting. Probably a bug in the KDE libraries. Do you
have a crash report for jockey under /var/crash/ ? Can you please run

  /usr/share/apport/apport-qt -c /var/crash/_usr_bin_jockey-kde*.crash

and create a new report through our standard crash reporting tool? (That
will have more information which will help us with fixing the bug).

Right, this status is confusing. This is fixed in Ubuntu Intrepid.

The remaining, and most important, issue here is the freeze of your
system after you enabled nvidia. So the driver doesn't seem to work for
your particular card. Can you please cut&paste the output of

  lspci -n |grep 0300

here? This will give us the vendor/product ID of your graphics card.
Thank you!
