I'm also experiencing this issue with a Gigabyte EG43M-S2H and a variety of 1080p compatible panels (Sharp, Westinghouse, Sony, etc). I've noticed that I have better luck with a DVI->HDMI cable than with the HDMI output on the motherboard directly.
