@reallifedesign.co.uk Perhaps your problems after hibernation are not caused by nm. I have similar problems after standby. It's seems to be a driver-problem. After resuming I remove and reload the driver-module (sudo modprobe -r <drivermodule>;sudo modprobe <drivermodule>).
