Just for the sake of documenting my finding I add this comment here for those that may be affected by the same misconfiguration:
I had exactly the same problems, but they weren't fixed with the forementioned packages nor with the solution mentioned in bug 21708 so something else was still wrong. After debugging hal and seeing "setfacl ...
