This appears to be a bug that was fixed in kwin 3.5.7.  Kubuntu kwin
3.5.10 still has this bug.  See:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94470 for details of this issue.  I
am experiencing this issue with dual monitor (seperate X screen), no
xinerama, screen0=1680x1059 screen1=1600x1200.  Maximizing windows on
screen1 takes screen0's size.
