I was changing the current location on the clock/calendar (it changes the timezone). However, I cannot reproduce it anymore, changing the current location does not require an authentification (neither with hardy nor with intrepid) I'm puzzled. > "Users and Groups" from the > System->Administration menu should have an "unlock" button that makes > it pop up. the button is disabled on the live-cd.
