@newuser: I had the same problem as yourself and others with seemingly random freezes and definite lockups when launching totem or vlc. Correct me if i am wrong, but if this occurs 99% of the time when trying to playback video i think this may be more related to bug:233896
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/233896 I came across a thread that suggested it might be helpful to set gstreamer to use a different x output and this seems to have solved the problem for me with 6+ days of uptime so far and not a single freeze. the url i found is as follows: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-492411.html with the helpful post made by alex_anthony. I know that thread seems related to compiz however it seemed to solve the problem for me (i could not pretend to understand how, if anyone could enlighten please do) so i thought I'd post. My apologies if this is not the correct place for such a post however i felt it could help someone who coming to this generic titled thread and maybe recognizing that the problem can be more specifically defined, as it did help me (this was the first one i came across as well.) thanks -- System freeze randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/121791 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
