I also have this problem on my HP nx6110. I had it with Dapper and Edgy is the same.
When I do a clean boot, I can do a "tail -f /var/log/acpid" and see all the events being thrown (ac on-line, off-line, thermal events, etc)... If I resume from hibernate none of these events show. So, the battery info does not update, the fans don't start...
