After removing .thumbnails (and .gconf/apps/gthumb and .gnome2/gthumb) the command line output (no parameters) is as usual:
converting comment system...done.Segmentation fault (core dumped) There was a pause of several seconds between 'done.' and 'Segmentation' I of course have a fresh .crash file from this that I could either attach or file a new bug with if you like.
