I own a T61 76633LG, suspend works (mostly) fine out of the box with hardy. I didn't have to do any changes, IIRC; I surely didn't edit XML for that. Applying the proposed changes for my machine made matters worse here, suspend would take over a minute to complete and the screen would stay blank on waking up, forcing me to power off the machine.
