Hello Hew McLachlan, I'm part of the Ekiga team. I'm not part of Ubuntu. I just said, the ekiga team will do its best to release 3.0 in time _for_ inclusion in Intrepid (our "target"). And I think we did it in time. Now it is up to the Ubuntu team to intregrate it. (and a few comments above I provide a patch against a nasty bug in the ekiga 3.0.0 source in dpatch format to help the packaging). I also have personal package for ekiga SVN here: https://launchpad.net/~sevmek/+archive which might help packaging.
