After installing ia32-sun-java6-bin, I tried to tell firefox to use the 32-bit version of the plugin: $ sudo update-java-alternatives --plugin--verbose --set ia32-java-6-sun resetting java alternatives No alternatives for firefox-3.0-javaplugin.so.
