The "irq 18: nobody cared"-message disappears on my system (Abit IP35
Pro XE motherboard) by changing the SATA mode in the BIOS from IDE to
ACHI. This motherboard uses the ICH9R southbridge.

The system is still really slow at starting up though, as can be seen
here:
