I APT upgraded to Intrepid (~alpha 6) today, and hibernate doesn't work at all for me. The total effect of selecting the "hibernate" option from the new shutdown dialog is to drop out to a blank screen and ask for my password, as if I'd asked to lock the screen. There is a brief pause in between, suggesting that hibernation is attempted but rapidly abandoned. Not an improvement! This is on a Lenovo 3000 V100 laptop, with kernel 2.6.27-3-generic.
