I see the same thing. I'm using an Acer AL1711 LCD display - resolution 1280x1024. The system is a Dual-Core Atom - D945GCLF2 - 2GB ram
When I ran the live distro from a USB drive, the top panel was off the screen - and the firefox window controls were under it (ie obscured). I could however see the bottom panel. After installing, the top panel appears ok - but again the firefox window is underneath - and now the bottom panel has disappeared.
