Thanks to everyone who have given their time to source this out. Immediately I will not have much space to a quick solution, until I arrive in Australia.
Meantime I installed a Ubuntu 8 on another hard drive, both systems have been prepared for 3D modelling with Blender, the sound recording still remains with the evil ones (sic). Once in Australia, I will re-investigate sound recording using a Linux operating system. Thanks again. -- Line recording, sounds like it is down a well. has a very hollow playback.
