I'm not sure what's going on here. Could you go through in more detail
what you did?
You had a previous installation of dapper and you wanted to update to
Edgy using the live cd?
You found that it wouldn't let you install over the top of your dapper
installation so you installed using the ubuntu-6.10-alternate-amd64.iso?
You then installed dapper again and then upgraded to edgy (how?)
You also had a problem with grub?
