Thanks for replying. :) Since reporting the bug, I tried installing the driver that was needed for Gutsy, but it wouldn't install, saying that alsaconf couldn't be found. The (failed) installation removed older drivers, so now the volume won't change. I'm going to reinstall Alpha 6 when it is released today, and if it's still broken, I'll do as you requested. If it is, I'll post here again.
