I recently started having this same problem in Hardy. It didn't start until after I moved the bottom panel to the left side. I'm unable to consistently reproduce it, but it happens about once or twice a day now. top shows: PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 11644 amigo 20 0 553m 515m 15m R 81 25.4 33:24.22 gnome-panel
and the memory has been slowly growing for the last 43 minutes.
