Which email program were you using?
To be honest, I don't think that's enough information for a bug report, so I'm
converting this one to a question.
OpenOffice.org doesn't open documents from the Trash on my system (Ubuntu 8.10
Alpha) either, I may be reporting this as another bug after I do some updates.
On Ubuntu 7.04, you can recover files by copying them from the Trash to another
folder. You may need to edit the permissions of the recovered files by
right-clicking on their icons, choosing Properties, and opening the Permissions
tab.
