I was also able to reproduce this bug. on 2008-09-16.
A possible workaround is to switch to the gstreamer engine and use the necessary g-streamer dependencies for the codecs. Install kaffeine-gstreamer, Run kaffeine, Click Settings->Player Engine->Kaffeine-GStreamer.
