Only its daisy-chaining would be unusual. But no more than cascading two hubs. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 USB controller should be very standaard too.
Problem is my problem occurs only occasionally. It only lasts until I reset USB when it occurs. And I don't know how or why it starts. So, it's impossible to test it with a LiveCD. Does your problem occur all thye time.
