Hi, I am experiencing the same issue, tried with Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 5 (md5s are ok) and daily image from 12 September. Getting the same error on IBM T60, old whitebox P3 and IBM ThinkCenter. However runs fine on VmWare. tried "all_generic_ide, noapic, nolapic, irqpoll" kernel parameters - wont help.
