Please notice that bug #22985 is only about X700 cards using the "ati" driver. There are some other bugs on X600 cards, for instance bug #28925.
Since the original reporter here, and most of the others, have ATI 9200-9800 cards, do not post comments here if you have another type of card. Mixing up the bug report with different (although similar in symptoms) issues makes it harder to debug. Please make sure you have the exact symptoms as the original reporter. And yes, the reason no developers was looking at this bug is probably because it was not confirmed. Another thing is that nobody has attached their xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log.
