I did research into this a while ago, and for a program to appear in the
index, it has to have a special note in it's .desktop fine. That is fine
and doable, however, there is no way to regenerate the index (like via
an apt trigger), so the programs don't show up in add/remove.

This also means that all categories but "supported applications" are
lying, because more programs are "available" in synaptic (ppa's & third-
party repositories).
